Hobbies Can Be Profitable, Too!
I love games. I don’t care if I’m playing them on my Switch, my Playstation 5, my Rog Ally, or even on my phone. Sometimes I choose one console over the other, based on why I am gaming. The Switch is cozy and it’s where I have most of my cozy games. The PS5 is the console I use most for streaming. And the Rog Ally is where all my Steam games are.
But mobile phone games? They are both chill and cozy (I usually play from my comfy cuddle chair) and profitable.
If you read my blog post about making money with phone games, you know that mobile game apps have been more profitable for me that streaming on Twitch. I love Twitch but when I want to actually make some money, it’s the mobile games that make money for me, more often than not.
I use three main mobile game apps to play games that make money and I’ve already talked about them. If you want to know how much money I’ve made, I’m updating the blog post as I earn and you can read more about mobile game apps that make money for me here.
But, which games that make money on my mobile game apps are actually fun to play? Are they just watching a lot of ads? Or are they entertaining? Would I play them if they didn’t make money?
Well, I’m here to today to tell you about the top 10 mobile phone games I play through apps the most and why (in no particular order).
#1 Idle Bank Tycoon – Money Empire (FreeCash)

Idle Bank Tycoon was the first game I found on FreeCash where I finally understood how FreeCash works. MistPlay was my first mobile game app for making money and it operates a little differently but not really differently. It’s just displayed differently. But it took me some time to figure out that it was essentially the same concept. I’ve found some great mobile phone games through this app, too.
Anyway, in Idle Bank Tycoon, you are operating a bank. Your goal is to make as much money as possible. But you can’t do that without customers. And to get more customers, you have to make your first customers happy.
How do you make customers happy? Providing good service, training staff, having lots of options, and of course, providing a pleasing atmosphere where people can give you their money!
You also have to market yourself so a good marketing department is essential. And that means more staff training! Happy marketers work harder and make you more money so make sure they have a nice place to work.
Essentially, you’re spending money to make money and you have to decide where is the best place to spend your money.
There are also mini-games within the game that you can play to make more money to level up your bank.
And when you have taken a bank as far as you can – you get a new bank!
Idle Bank Tycoon is just what it sounds like – it’s an idle game where you can play it while doing other things. You can just let the game run on your phone while you’re doing dishes and then come back and do a few tasks. Plug your phone in for this game! Or, you can write, draw, journal, or even play another more active game on another device while just popping over to your phone to run some ads.
Now, the big question – do you have to play ads? Some of them, yes. The ones you have to play are usually short though. But if you want to progress faster (and to be realistic, if you want to make money through FreeCash, going through levels quickly is going to make you a lot more money) watching ads does make a big difference.
On Idle Bank Tycoon, you have a lot of opportunities to run ads. This is where having something else to do comes in. Run the ad and do something else for the 30-90 seconds it takes for the ad to complete. When I play this game, I run all the ads.
#2 Carnival Tycoon – Coin Games (FreeCash)

Carnival Tycoon is my latest obsession for games. It’s also an idle game but not quite as idle as Idle Bank Tycoon. There are ads but they don’t start appearing until further on in the game. I reached my first milestone (worth $24 US) before I even saw the option for an ad.
In this game, you’re running a carnival. Build the entrance. Add rides and games. Make them better. Charge more for them. Get more people into your carnival.
And…you guessed it…all this costs money. So, make your carnival better and get more customers and make more money.
There’s more to it, of course. Mini-games make it possible to make more money to level up your carnival. The easiest way to do this is with spins. Spin the wheel and win money, more spins, and other things for more mini-games. As you progress, you’ll get mini-games like feeding your pet, shooting barrels, opening vaults and other things. As you spin, you also get mini-games within the mini-games. Attack other players and raid their vaults to earn more money.
As with many of these kinds of games, you’ll also collect cards. Cards create sets. When you complete sets you get more spins, more cards, and of course, money.
Spinning the wheel is mostly idle. If you have a lot of spins to use up, you can set it to auto-spin and just pay attention to it when you collect items like cards or when you attack or raid other players.
And if you’ve done all you can? This is when it becomes truly idle. Plug in your phone and go about your business. Check in once in a while to make sure the game is still running (depending on what time you have your phone to turn off at). If you have a kick ass phone battery, you can likely even play this when you’re not at home but I always have my phone plugged in when I’m playing in idle mode.
At the time, I’m playing this game every day for several hours. But not really playing. It’s idle!
#3 June’s Journey (TopSurveys)

I just started playing this game recently so I haven’t got a lot of time into it. I’ve mostly been using TopSurvey for, well, surveys. But it has games, too.
The first game I did was a story app and I did like that but it didn’t keep me engaged enough. You could only read so much before you ran out of coins and would have to buy coins to read more. And honestly, I’m not about spending money to make money when the money you spend is more than the money you make. If I really loved the stories, sure, I might continue. But they aren’t amazing.
I decided to play June’s Journey because my mom loves this game. Seriously, she plays it over and over again. She plays other games on her phone, too. I’ve tried to convince her to try some of the mobile game apps for earning money because she could use some extra money but I haven’t sold her on the idea yet.
Anyway, I really like this game. It’s not the typical kind of game I play.
June’s Journey is a story based game where you’re hunting for the person who killed some of your family. They lived in a huge mansion and the law decided that your uncle killed your aunt and then offed himself. Their daughter thinks this is ridiculous and so do you. As you progress through the game, you learn more and come closer to solving the mystery.
But in order to solve the mystery and move forward, you have to search for clues! You get a room or house setting and have to look for things in the room. A raven, books, pearls, and so on. And as you find the items, you sometimes find a clue that will guide you further in determining who the real killer is!
Honestly, it’s a lot more fun and engaging than I thought it would be. I can see why my Mom loves it. The pictures where you’re searching for clues are beautiful and intricate and sometimes it can be challenging to find them!
I’m definitely going to keep up with this game and see where the story goes!
#4 Traffic Frenzy (MistPlay)

I’d seen Traffic Frenzy advertised on the ads that play in apps like MistPlay and I was curious about it. It looked like fun. But I didn’t see it in any of the apps so I passed on it.
Until I did see it on the app! And bonus – it earns 3X faster. On MistPlay, all games earn money but some games earn faster than other. Games can earn units up to 5X faster so 3X is decent. I don’t choose games strictly based on how fast they earn but it’s nice when they earn faster.
The concept of this game is simple – get all the vehicles out without bumping into other vehicles. It’s a puzzle game so it’s great for your brain muscles! The first games are pretty easy but as you progress in the games, it gets harder. There are more vehicles or there might be trains. Sometimes there’s garbage on the road and you have to clear it out with the road sweepers before you can get the rest of the cars to move through. There might be an ambulance or a fire truck in the middle of traffic and they are on a timeline.
It’s not rocket science but it’s fun. Also, from what I recall, minimal ads.
#5 My Perfect Hotel (MistPlay)

My Perfect Hotel is both an idle game and not an idle game. Depends on how you play it.
At some point, you do have to be active. You have to build rooms, clean rooms, build amenities (bathrooms, drink areas, pool, restaurant) and of course, collect money. You need the money to do everything else. As you go, you also hire staff to do things for you and earn money to build more.
Once you have a hotel built up, you can let it go idle as with the other games like Bank Tycoon and Carnival Tycoon. You won’t earn as much but you’ll still make money in the game.
There are definitely ads in this game. Some of them are unavoidable and these ones are usually shorter. But if you want to move forward faster, watch the ads. Ads let you move faster (which is great when you have a bunch of stuff to deliver to open up a new wing in the hotel), get a helper kitty to collect money with you, or other activities that just make the game go faster.
This game is cute and engaging and I have fun with it when it’s not in idle mode.
#6 Love & Pies (MistPlay)

I didn’t think I would like Love & Pies because it’s a matching game. I’m not big into matching games. When everyone was obsessed with Candy Crush, I was playing FarmVille. But I downloaded it to try anyway because it is 5X Hyper so it earns fast on MistPlay.
The story is what sucked me in. You play a girl who goes to visit her mom and finds her mom missing and her cafe destroyed by fire! You have to find out what happened to your mom and restore the cafe so it starts making money again. People think your mom burned it down for the insurance money – but that can’t be right! Can it?
As you move forward in the story you meet lots of interesting characters. You have a young daughter who is cute and quirky (she like to dress as a dinosaur) and your high school boyfriend is very helpful. There’s the big cafe owner from town who is determined to spread rumors and your uncle who helps out at the cafe when he can. There’s lots of other fun characters in the game, too.
You find out more and progress in the story by playing a match game to get more coins to unlock decorating and story lines.
Even though it takes me longer now to get to the next level and make money (yes, it earns faster but as you progress, it takes more time to hit each milestone, but you make more units from each milestone), I keep playing the game to find out where the story is going!
#7 Train Miner (MistPlay)

If you don’t want to think to hard, Train Miner is the game for you. While not totally idle (you have to keep your finger on the screen to make the train go) it’s simple.
Take your train around the track and make the track bigger by collecting resources. Dump the resources and do it again. That’s it. There’s nothing else to it really. Yes, you want to upgrade your train to make it faster, stronger, better at collecting resources, but that’s basically it.
As you go, you can watch ads to get additional features. Watch an ad to get bombs to destroy areas and collect resources faster. Watch an ad to make the train go super fast and not have to stop to drop off resources.
This game earns at 2.5X Faster so it’s worth some time on MistPlay. I leveled up to Checkpoint 8 pretty quick. I haven’t played much lately because I can only obsess over a couple games at a time but I’ll likely still spend some time on it when I want to earn more units on MistPlay.
#8 Vita Mahjong (MistPlay)

I used to play Mahjong on the computer long before I ever had a phone so this game was – familiar. I knew the basic concept of it so I figured it was be fun. I like this game much more than I like solitaire!
And I was right. I did enjoy this game. The first few games are pretty simple, too, so you can hit checkpoints and milestones pretty quickly at first.
The idea of mahjon is to eliminate tiles by matching them. But you can only match tiles that have one side open. If there are other tiles on both sides, you can’t match them. So, the challenge is to eliminate tiles so you can eliminate more tiles. It’s not a difficult concept but the more tiles there are on the board, the more challenging it is.
There’s not much more to this game than that. Just match the tiles. It’s weird that I like this game but I don’t usually like matching games.
As you win more matches you get tools to help you like hints. This can be very helpful when your eyes just aren’t seeing the pairs anymore!
#9 Daily Mahjong Match (MistPlay)

This is a mahjong game but it’s just a little bit different. In this game you have to match tiles, too. The difference is, they have to be beside each other. They don’t have to be touching each other but they have to be on the same line, vertically or horizontally.
There’s really not much else to say about this game but it is definitely one I come back to often.
#10 Shoppin’ Drop (MistPlay)

This is just fun game. Like Traffic Frenzy, it’s just a keep busy game but there is some skill involved. You have to think about it a little bit.
In Shoppin’ Drop, you have a hole and you have to suck up items. LOL. Ya, sounds silly. But it is fun. There are specific items that you have to get but you have to look for them. And as you suck up items, the hole gets bigger. Which is good, because it allows you to get bigger items. But it’s not good because it makes it more difficult to avoid the bombs. And if you get a bomb in your hole, you have to either start again or spend in-game currency to continue or watch an ad.
There’s a time limit, too, so don’t waste time.
Are Mobile Game Apps That make Money For You?
Only you can answer that. Maybe you don’t want the pressure of making money while you have fun. And that’s ok.
But the truth is, you can make money playing games. You won’t get rich. It won’t pay your rent. But if you are playing games on your phone anyway and you enjoy it, why not make a little money at the same time?
