Fortnitemares 2026: “The Game Is Cursed” — Everything We Know About Fortnite’s Halloween Event

•

It’s my favorite time of the year – Fornitemares 2026 is right around the corner and it is time to have some spooky Fornite fun! The official launch of Fortnitemares 2026 is Thursday, October 1, 2026, and there’s also a v42.30 update. It’s looking like it’s going to be a very cursed event!

Update — September 28: The FNAF crossover has been confirmed by Epic! And there are three more crossover confirmed by Epic now, too! Freddy Krueger, Slender Man, and The Purge!

Fortnitemares 2026: “The Game Is Cursed”

Epic started dropping teasers about Fornightmares 2026 on September 23rd on their X account. Their caption teased, “Nitemares really do come true 🖤 10.1,” with a chilling subtitle: “The Game Is Cursed.”

This all worked along with the Chapter 7, Season 4 glitch theme. The image has a shattered look as if the screen had been cracked and the system had been corrupted. It’s not the generic horror them and totally fits the look of the season. Just like Fortnite to be totally committed right?

When Does the Fortnitemares 2026 Fun Begin?

If you’re like me your calendar is already marked for Thursday, October 1, 2026 (I also have plans to play the new Nivalis Nights that day but…I’m not missing this! Might be a long day!)

As GosuGamers pointed out:

“This year’s Fortnitemares is kicking off much earlier than previous editions, with the 2025 event starting on 9 October and the 2024 edition beginning on 12 October.” — GosuGamers

Since it is starting so early, does that mean that the event will run all month? It’s very likely. The Season 4, Chapter 7 ends on November 1st so that totally makes sense. And there’s a content update planned for October 15 so, hopefully, that means there will be several drops of new content.

Horde Rush Returns (With an Override Twist)

The Horde Rush LTM is a favorite Fortnitemares tradition and it is back this year. Obviously, they are going to fuse it with Override features like Console Overrides, Loot Hacks, and of course, Sprites! I can’t wait to see what new Sprites are going to be added. As Beebom put it, it’s “essentially Horde Rush + Override combined, combining the best of both experiences.”

Some of the bosses you can expect to come across include Cerberus, Kado Thorne, Ultimate Carver, and Shogun X. And since Geno is central to the storyline this season, you can expect to see him, too.

The Spooky Loot Pool

You can be sure that Fornite is going to shake up the loot pool with some Fortnitemares fun. We’ll probably see some Halloween favorites like the Pumpkin Launcher, the Witch Broom, and the Howler Claws. I’m hoping to see the Slapperoni Pizza and the Kneecapper back. I love me my melee weapons and the Kneecapper is one of my all time faves. There’s talk about the Finger Guns coming back, too.

Of course, there will be some free cosmetics so even if you’re budgeting like me, you can get some cool new stuff just by playing and running some quests.

FNAF Is Official (Plus Three More Horror Icons)

It started off as a rumor but it’s official now! Five Nights at Freddy’s is a CONFIRMED COLLAB! Epic dropped a full reveal trailer, and it’s nothing less than awesome:

  • Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria arrives on the island as a full location
  • Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy appear as animatronic boss fights you can take on
  • Trailer reports point to animatronic outfits with Withered edit styles and reactive damage details

Epic’s announcement nailed the vibe: “It’s almost showtime! The Fazbear Band has taken over Battle Royale. Face the animatronic animal bosses and survive the night… if you can. Fortnitemares begins 1st October!”

And if that’s not exciting enough for you, Fornite provided us with another image confirming three more collabs – Freddy Krueger, Slender Man, and The Purge, as reported by Bloody Disgusting.

There has been talk of other crossovers but they are still just in the rumor stage. Chucky, Pennywise, Beetlejuice, The Exorcist, Hello Neighbor, Predator, a 99 Nights in the Forest collab teased in official Chapter 7 Season 4 marketing, plus HYPEX’s hints at an “Obsession” collab and Black Clover.

Last year we had Ghostface (and wasn’t that phone booth/knife addition awesome?), Wednesday Addams, and Jason Voorhees. Personally, I think that this year is going to be even more amazing and it’s not quite October yet!

What I’m Watching For

As a cozy gamer who somehow also drops into battle royale chaos, Fortnitemares is my favorite time of year in Fortnite. Here’s what’s on my personal watchlist:

  1. Surviving the FNAF boss fights — Freddy and the gang as actual in-game bosses is the exact kind of chaos I live for. (And those animatronic skins would make killer last-minute costume inspiration — watch for my DIY Fortnite costumes guide if you need ideas!)
  2. The free quest cosmetics — free is my favorite price.
  3. Horde Rush with the Override twist — the perfect mode for cozy-chaotic squad nights.

I’ll be streaming Fortnitemares 2026 on Twitch (CUSHK1970) on October 1st — come hang out for the jumpscares.

Which collab are you hoping for? Let me know in the comments! 🎃
