How I’m Resisting the Urge to Reset My Island

ACNH slumber islands are one of the new features that Animal Crossing New Horizons has added to the game with the January 15 update. Thankfully! It’s a great feature for those who have completed their island theme and aren’t quiet ready to completely reset (with either a hard reset or Resetti’s Reset service).

I’ve reset my island once already (I finished a music festival island) and although I didn’t have any regrets, it was a lot of work to start from scratch. Besides the fact that you have to go through all the monotony of the beginning steps, you have to collect all the resources again and you have to buy new furniture and of course, earn bells. It takes a long time and if you’re doing it for the second time around, it can be frustrating.

As usual, I did my normal steps first.

Octavian Tried to Move!

Why is one of my villagers always trying to move out? Aren’t they happy? Ok, maybe I don’t talk to them as much as I used to. And maybe I don’t gift them stuff as much as I should. But it seems like every time I play, one of them is trying to pack their bags.

Of course, I always tell them I don’t want them to. Like I said in the past, there are few that I would even consider letting them leave.

Octavian is one of my villagers that I love and I’m not willing to think about him going anywhere for the time being. He’s a cranky villager but he makes me laugh with the weird things he says. And he calls me pumpkin. Octavian is kind of like a fatherly figure. He has some good advice, he doesn’t understand why kids do the things they do, and he’s happiest when he sees people hard at work. And who else would run the fish shop by the pier?

Tourists Still Wandering

Of course, since the hotel opened and there are lots of rooms opening up, there are still lots of tourists wandering around.

This week my tourists included Bluebear, Francine, Tom, and Rowan. Tom and Rowan are strange little villagers (a cranky and a sporty) and I probably would never invite them to live on my island but I had some interesting conversations with them anyway.

Bluebear and Francine are adorable though. If Bluebear wanted to move there, I’d probably let go of Sydney.

But, they are just visiting and enjoying a vacation at a lake resort, so I just chatted with them and enjoyed them.

ACNH Hotel Renovations are Coming Along

The hotel is up to…7 rooms now? I think? I don’t know. I lost count.

This week I did an Elegant room and tried to change up the layout a bit. Not a whole lot.

I put the bedroom and the bathroom at the front of the room this time. I went with darker walls and red accents, with lots of Imperial furniture. I just now realize that my dresser is backwards. Like, literally, just now. Oh well. Something to change later I guess.

The living area has Nordic furniture in dark brown and a red pattern that I like. It’s included in the customizations so you can do this for yourself if you want. The kitchen has a dark wood ironwood sink and a red and steel oven and red fridge. I went with counter dining to allow for more room in the living area and the bathroom.

I wanted the bathroom in this suite to be luxurious so I have a big stone soaker tub and a huge sink and mirror. I like it and would enjoy it if I were on a vacation.

ACNH Slumber Islands are Interesting…

I’m not saying I don’t like the new ACNH slumber islands but…they take some getting used to and you have to spend some time figuring out what you can and can’t do.

Mostly, it is just like having another island. For this one, I’m playing around with a kind of cozy, lo-fi vibe. Not so much city as Asian park. I don’t know. It’s evolving. I went with a medium sized island because I wanted to have space to design but I didn’t want it to be overwhelming. The medium island is bigger than a mystery island but smaller than your own island.

I was happy to find that you can just pick up the trees and not have to put them in your pocket or anything. You just pick them up and they are gone. And then you can plant new trees (or flowers or shrubs) where you want. I like that you can plant trees/flowers in various stages of growth and not have to try to prevent them from growing more.

I have a lot of bamboo trees and I chose to use both full-grown and partially grown bamboo plants.

I think this makes it interesting and it turned out well.

This is an area right off my dock on my slumber island. Kind of a little park like vibe.

You can also move your house (only you have a house) any place on the island you want. It’s almost instantaneous. You go talk to the gyroid guy on the dock and he gives you a moving kit and you pick a place to move it and then it’s there. No waiting a day. So, if you don’t like it, you can just go back to him and get another moving kit. He doesn’t even complain about it!

You can also change the look of your house on your slumber island and it’s instant change, too. And when you go back to your real island, your house is back to the original design that you left it as.

On ACNH slumber islands, your house is empty. You get to design each room from scratch so you can experiment with different designs.

As for what items you have to choose from for decorating…well, I’m not sure how that is determined. I’m pretty sure I have more furniture than just the things I had to select from. But I could be wrong. While you can place workbenches, you can’t actually craft at them. And there are some items in the furniture selection that are craftable items. So maybe you have to have crafted them before?

I’m not sure about the item selection. If you know what is up with that please share!

Anyway, I only did one of the rooms in my house and went with a cozy little kitchen and dining area at the back of my house.

I feel like it is a little empty yet though. But it’s a work in progress, I guess.

The only other thing I’ve done on the first of my ACNH slumber islands is a book nook at the very top level. It has a small pond and some walls. There’s a bed for reading (surrounded by bookcases) and a couch for visitors. I think it looks cute.

What I really wanted to do was some ruined pillars and stools but those are not options for me. I’m wondering if it is because I’ve never actually made them? I know I have the designs for them but I haven’t made them, so maybe that’s why I couldn’t choose them. I guess I’m going to have to craft them and see if they become and option after that.

Oh, another thing about ACNH slumber islands – you can change the time of day and you can change the weather – but you can’t change the season. WHY? WHY???? I just wanted my slumber island to have a spring vibe so I could use cherry blossom trees. I’m not thrilled with that!

Anyway, that was this week. I didn’t have a lot of time to play but I did do a stream of the designing of the slumber island, yesterday.
