Wylde Flowers Review: A Well Loved Cozy Game

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready…

Witches, LGBTQ+ Characters, Storyline, Critters, and More!

Wylde Flowers is the game you if you like to have lots to do and a good story line. Seriously, there’s a good reason that cozy gamers can’t get enough of this game and recommend it to all their cozy gamer friends. It’s right up there with Animal Crossing New Horizons as far as playability goes. You’re not likely to finish this game in the time suggested to play it.

Most Wylde Flowers game descriptions say that it takes 30-60 hours to play but I’ve been playing this game much longer than that. I’m 70 hours in and not even half way through the second year. I’m no where close to finishing.

When you move to Fairhaven to help Grandma with the farm, you have no idea what you’re in for. You play as Tara, a young woman who has had a recent breakup with her fiance and you’re ready to get out of city life and live in a small town. But are you ready for all the witches? Are you ready to be a witch?

Wylde Flowers is Very Witchy

If you ever fancied being a witch and being able to cast spells and help people at the same time, you’re going to be very into this game. Tara finds out she’s a witch and so is her grandma – and so are a lot of other people in the town.

Spells can be dangerous but there are many witches who will help you figure things out and avoid getting in trouble. As the seasons change, you and the other witches make sure things that need to happen are happening.

But there are whole areas of the game that are dedicated to witchiness. Each area is revealed as your knowledge grows.

Farming, Mining, and Relationships are Part of The Story

Of course, we can’t just run around casting spells all the time. There are important life tasks to take care of. There are shops that need to be tended to. And people need to eat!

You’ll meet Kim, who runs the butcher shop; Sophia runs the cafe; and there are lots of other characters and places and they all have stories to share. Buy bait to go fishing. Cook meals to give to friends or sell to Sophia. Get items you haven’t got yet from the store.

And yes, you’ll need to buy seeds to plant your garden – flowers and veggies and fruit trees.

When you get access to the mine you’ll be able to collect items to make tools and buildings and even jewelry. And you’ll want to have access to jewelry if you’re going to get married! Good thing there’s a jeweller in town!

There are a nice choice of residents you can build friendships with and some of them are in the market to be in a romantic relationship and even get married. You’re not limited by gender, either. Several of the characters are on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. I’m not going to tell you who I married first but I decided to end the relationship and just date.

Wylde Flowers Has Several Expansions

When you start the game, you’re limited to your property, the beaches, the town and the woods. As you progress through the game though, you’ll expand your world. There’s a mountain/forest north of your house and there are several areas that are only open as you expand on your witchy skills. And with those new areas comes new characters.

Not all the new characters are human though. They make the story even more interesting.
