I abandoned Cyberpunk 2077 but I'm going to go back to it!

Abandoned #1: Cyberpunk 2077

The Series Where I Talk About Games I Started But Never Finished

Yes, I have started a lot of games and never finished them. That is not to say that they are not great games (Cyberpunk 2077 is awesome). But I have a problem. I might have some undiagnosed ADHD happening!

First, let’s talk about the game…

What is Cyberpunk 2077?

Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in the futuristic city of Night City. The game is obsessed with excess of all kinds, technology, and power. You play as V, who is a mercenary in a city of moral decay. You’ll experience hacking and have to been good at being stealthy and first-person shooting (I’m not but I try). There are many narrative choices that will shape the story and help develop relationships with other characters.

Some of the thems include freedom and identity. You’ll meet Johnny Silverhand, who is a digital ghost and a huge rebel.

The game is largely story driven but there’s lots of action, too.

Did I Like Cyberpunk 2077?

Absolutely. In fact, I love the game and every time I think about it I am mad that I stopped playing it.

I love a good story in my games and this game definitely delivers. There are times where I was shocked at what happens. I laughed. And yes, I literally cried at one point. Like tears streaming down my cheek crying. It’s that emotional.

The cyberpunk city setting is what drew me to the game in the first place. I watch a couple people streaming it and fell in love and had to try it, even though shooting games were not my thing at the time. Ever since I played Stray, I’ve been obsessed with any game that has cyberpunk vibes.

Why Was Cyberpunk 2077 Abandoned?

You’re probably wondering why this game was abandoned if I love it so much. Sometimes I ask myself that, too.

I think when it came right down to it, when I started this game (maybe a year ago?) it was just way above my skill level. I hadn’t played and shooter games at all at that point and I struggled with it. I loved the story lines and I loved exploring the city and driving around, but even on it’s easiest mode, you do have to fight at at some point. And the fight scenes were just so hard for me.

I played it less and less and eventually, I lost track of all the quests (there are a lot of them). And I forgot where the controls were and how to do basic things.

The last time I played it (a couple months ago) I got so frustrated, I logged out and haven’t been back since.

Will I Give Up Entirely?

Absolutely not!

I have come to terms with the fact that I am the type of gamer who needs to play a game fairly consistently in order to remember what all the controls are for. For this reason, I am trying to play Last of Us at least once a week or so. If I don’t, I forget what I’m doing and how to do it.

So, I WILL go back to Cyberpunk 2077 again. I think now that I’ve played some other shooter games, I can likely go back to this game with fresh eyes. I think I will start again from scratch and make it a once a week game so I can keep up with it.

Also, if I stream it (which I totally will), I can be held accountable.

Have you played Cyberpunk 2077? Did you finish it? Is it worth going back to play it completely from beginning to end?

Sadly, I don’t have any screencaptures of the game! I don’t know how that happened. So, I’m using an image from Flickr by yusimoilov under the Creative Commons license.
