What do you do when your games all bore you?
Have you ever been in a gaming rut? If you have, you know what I’m going through because that’s where I am right now. Actually, I’m in a life rut, but that’s another story entirely.
A couple weeks ago I was deep into Tomodochi Life and the new season of Fornite. Today? I pick up my Switch (I’m currently at the lake and that’s the only console with me) and there’s nothing I want to play. My miis no longer entertain me. Fornite is just meh. Every game I start turns into a one game session before I get annoyed and put it down.
So, should I start a new game? I did buy Zelda: Breath of the Wild and I played for about an hour. The game is good – but it’s too thinky. Finding all the shrines, figuring out how to stay warm when I’m on a mountain, looking for new weapons – it’s all just more than I can do right now. I need simplicity. This Zelda game is just too complicated at the moment.
I have a lot of games that have gone completely unplayed. I could play the second Coffee Talk game. I’d have to wait for it to download first though. I haven’t finished Mixed Tape yet. I have loads of games I haven’t even started. But nothing that really interests me. And honestly? It’s making me a little bit crazy.
I could pick up an old game that’s unfinished. Wylde Flowers. Tiny Bookshop. Sprout Valley. But there’s a reason I stopped playing them before I finished them. I got bored. It was either taking too long to reach milestones or it was just too much of the same kind of activity in each “day” of game play.
Animal Crossing kept me busy for a few hours this morning when I couldn’t sleep. But there’s a lot to do with my cyberpunk redesign and honestly, it’s a grind and I can only stay with it for a short time. I kinda wish I could just start over. But I’ve already put so much time into developing this island. And I love my villagers.
So, should I buy a new game? I do have $35 that I could spend in the Nintendo eShop (a gift card from Mistplay). The problem is, I don’t know what I want and I don’t want to buy a game just because I’m bored. Chances are, I’ll make an impulse choice and end up buying yet another game that will just go unplayed.
What do you do when you’re in a gaming rut? I’m open to ideas. Because I really do want to play some games! I just can’t find one that I want to keep playing for very long!
