Stuck in a Gaming Rut

What do you do when your games all bore you?

Have you ever been in a gaming rut? If you have, you know what I’m going through because that’s where I am right now. Actually, I’m in a life rut, but that’s another story entirely.

A couple weeks ago I was deep into Tomodochi Life and the new season of Fornite. Today? I pick up my Switch (I’m currently at the lake and that’s the only console with me) and there’s nothing I want to play. My miis no longer entertain me. Fornite is just meh.

So, should I start a new game? I did buy Zelda: Breath of the Wild and I played for about an hour. The game is good – but it’s too thinky. Finding all the shrines, figuring out how to stay warm when I’m on a mountain, looking for new weapons – it’s all just more than I can do right now.

I have a lot of games that have gone completely unplayed. I could play the second Coffee Talk game. I’d have to wait for it to download first though. I haven’t finished Mixed Tape yet. I have loads of games I haven’t even started. But nothing that really interests me.

I could pick up an old game that’s unfinished. Wylde Flowers. Tiny Bookshop. Sprout Valley. But there’s a reason I stopped playing them before I finished them. I got bored.

Animal Crossing kept me busy for a few hours this morning when I couldn’t sleep. But there’s a lot to do with my cyberpunk redesign and honestly, it’s a grind and I can only stay with it for a short time.

So, should I buy a new game? I do have $35 that I could spend in the Nintendo eShop (a gift card from Mistplay). The problem is, I don’t know what I want and I don’t want to buy a game just because I’m bored. Chances are, I’ll make an impulse choice and end up buying yet another game that will just go unplayed.
